The Black  State Park protects rugged and spectacular bushland in an area where much of the natural vegetation has been cleared for farming. The Black Range, similar in character to the Grampians Ranges to the east, is important for fauna conservation, contains a rich and diverse flora and has highly significant Aboriginal art and occupation sites.
